BLUETTI has been making some big moves in the energy storage space and is shaking things up again in the large portable power station market with the introduction of its new BLUETTI Apex 300 and B300K energy storage units.

The BLUETTI Apex 300 serves as the base unit and brains of the portable power system. It boasts an impressive 2,764 watt-hours of storage capacity, but if that’s not enough, you can add a B300K expansion battery for another 2,764 watt-hours of capacity. BLUETTI sells the pair on its website for $2,499, which is a solid deal for a total of just over 5 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of storage capacity.

That’s an impressive amount of storage that’s made even more so by the output rating of the Apex 300. It can push out 3,840 watts of power continuously, which is enough to do just about anything you might need to do in your house. To put it in context, that’s anything from providing backup power to charge your electric vehicle, run a welder, or keep all your appliances and lights online during a power outage.

This combination is made even more attractive by BLUETTI’s range of accessories available for the system. The company sent us with its expansion power ports which gives you the ability to add USB and AC outlets in a remote location.

This setup is also a fantastic option for to provide power in remote locations and while on the go in vehicles like boats, RVs, van life, and off-grid tiny houses.

Recharge With Solar

There are lots of options for keeping this power station topped up with electron juice, including tapping into a vehicle’s onboard electrical system. In traditional combustion vehicles, you can tap directly into the vehicle’s power to keep the battery pack charged up from an onboard 12 volt supply, but it has another trick up its sleeve.

The Apex 300 can be recharged one of BLUETTI’s many portable or fixed solar panel offerings. The company sent us one of its 200 watt folding solar panels which pushes down between 100 and 200 watts of power from the sun to the base station depending on the intensity and angle of the sun.

If you’re looking to make this a more robust system with a higher recharge rate, you can simply add more solar panels to the setup. For van life, you could add a few hundred watts of fixed solar panels to the roof for a constant flow of juice no matter where home is for the night. Adding a set of folding solar panels is a great option when you’re planning to stay in one place for a few nights.

The Apex 300 can drink up 2,400 watts of solar directly wired into it, which is typically what you’ll be doing in a van life, off-grid home, or RV. If you want to use the system as a backup power system for your home, the Apex 300 can be wired directly to a roof-mounted solar system thanks to its unique AC-coupled solar capability.

Use Cases

BLUETTI has clearly been putting in work to increase the capability of its power stations and has added the ability to charge the Apex 300 directly from an internal combustion generator at up to 3,840 watts.

With its ability to charge directly from DC solar, AC-coupled solar, generators, and of course a typical AC wall outlet, the BLUETTI Apex 300 brings a ton of functionality to the party.

As for portability, this system is a bit of a heavyweight, with the pair tipping the scales at just over 100 pounds. This is largely because it uses thickened metal shielding and heavy-duty handles internally to ensure durability and impact resistance. The teardown video provides a closer look at the build quality. Because of this, it’s probably not a system you’ll be taking to family gatherings or on camping trips, but it does make a great base station that can be semi-permanently mounted in a vehicle or home. BLUETTI developed its own trolley for the system that makes it easy to stack your batteries, lock them into the trolley, and move them around with less effort.

For van lifers, the Apex 300 is a great base station, and the ability to add another 2.7kWh of capacity by simply purchasing another B300K expansion pack is a game-changer. It has a built in TT-30 output plug on it which makes it easy to integrated it into your RV’s power system.

If you’re a weekend warrior, the Apex 300 can be installed as the brains of a home backup power system, then moved into your vehicle when adventure calls. If you’ve added B300K expansion packs to the system, you can simply move your additional storage capacity into the vehicle as well. Life changes over time and the ability to scale the capacity up or down is really nice.

BLUETTI developed the system with flexibility in mind and developed the Hub D1 to make it easier to charge all of your DC devices wherever life takes you. The Apex 300 itself doesn’t have any DC ports on it as its designed for higher power applications.

To solve this, the Hub D1 brings 2×12 volt automotive outlets, 2xUSB-C, and 2xUSB-A outlets to the party by tapping into the system’s battery expansion port. If you’ve added a B300K battery, you can plug the Hub D1 into the expansion port on the B300K.

On the AC side of things, the Apex 300 features a 120/240 volt 50 amp NEMA 14-50 outlet, a 120/240 volt 30 amp TT-30 outlet and a proprietary 120/240v 50 amp connector. For the US, it features 4x20amp 120 volt outlets and a single 120v/15 amp AC outlet. That’s a lot of options for making use of all the stored power, no matter what you’re trying to do.

We put the Apex 300 and B300K to the test with everything from EV charging to power tools to home appliances and it handled everything we threw at it. It’s an absolute workhorse that can be custom tailored to suit your specific needs.

All told, the BLUETTI Apex 300 is one of the most flexible, compact, and affordable portable power stations on the market.

The BLUETTI Apex 300 and B300K work together as the foundation of what is the most customizable portable power system we’ve seen from any manufacturer. Its ability to scale up or down in capacity, to drink up power from nearly any source, and to power just about anything under the sun sets it apart.
