For quite some time now, we’ve been seeing reports and hearing buzz across multiple auto news platforms about Tata Motors planning to bring back its most affordable car, the Nano, in an all-electric form. For EV enthusiasts, this is exactly the kind of news we’ve been waiting for.

The idea of a truly budget-friendly electric car, built for everyday city use, has the potential to completely change how people look at EVs in India.

And now, with recent spy shots surfacing online, it finally looks like this idea might be moving closer to reality, as Tata Motors has been spotted testing what appears to be a Nano-based electric prototype on Indian roads.

A camouflage-wrapped test mule strongly resembling the original Tata Nano has been photographed during active testing on Indian roads this time wearing a distinctive “EV” badge on its front fascia, suggesting that Tata Motors is seriously exploring an all-electric revival of its iconic people’s car.

The test vehicle, registered under the Maharashtra test plate MH 00 AF 0104, was seen clocking kilometres on public roads and wore a black-white military camouflage wrap that partially disguised its body styling.

However, the unmistakable silhouette, compact dimensions, and tall greenhouse of the Nano are impossible to hide. Up front, the prototype features modern LED headlamps with a sleek DRL signature — a significant visual leap over the car’s original halogen setup — and a clean front bumper housing a flush-mounted charging port flap.
