Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Limited has crossed 1 gigawatt-hour (GWh) of cumulative lithium energy storage deployment in India’s telecom sector, marking a significant milestone in the country’s clean energy transition.

The deployment spans more than 50,000 telecom sites nationwide, giving the company over 35% cumulative market share in the telecom battery segment.

This achievement places Amara Raja among the first companies in India to reach such scale in lithium-based energy storage within the telecom industry.

The milestone comes at a time when India’s energy demand is rapidly evolving, driven by the expansion of 5G networks, increasing data consumption, and the growing integration of renewable energy.

Industry trends indicate that lithium-based storage solutions are nearing lifecycle cost parity with traditional battery technologies, while offering improved efficiency and operational performance.

According to company executives, the achievement is not just about scale but also about proving the viability of distributed lithium storage across diverse and demanding Indian conditions.

The company now aims to double its deployment capacity to 2 GWh by 2026, with a strategic focus on emerging segments such as data centres, industrial applications, and renewable energy integration.

M.M. Venkata Krishna, Business Head – Industrial Batteries at Amara Raja, said the company’s telecom experience provides a strong foundation for expansion into adjacent sectors.  He highlighted that the systems, execution capabilities, and customer relationships built over time position the company for its next phase of growth.

Harshavardhana Gourineni, Executive Director at Amara Raja Group, noted that energy storage in India is transitioning from a support function to a core infrastructure layer.

This shift is being driven by broader trends such as digitisation, electrification, and the increasing share of renewable energy in the power mix.

India’s energy storage ecosystem is expected to grow significantly, supported by national targets of 236 GWh capacity by 2032 and favourable policy frameworks.

In this context, Amara Raja’s large-scale deployment serves as a real-world validation of lithium storage scalability in India.

With proven performance across thousands of distributed sites, the company is positioning itself at the centre of India’s evolving energy infrastructure landscape—where reliable, scalable storage solutions are becoming critical to sustaining growth across telecom, data centres, and renewable energy sectors.
